Tamil New Zealand School of Dance has been training students in the South Indian style Bharatanatyam for over 15 years now. Our school community includes people from India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji and South Africa. Our school regularly performs not just within the Indian community, but also in other community events and contributes to the greater multicultural space. Our school regularly performs at the Auckland Diwali show, Auckland International Cultural Festival, Auckland Library Shows (organized by Auckland Council), Lakeside Festival, Auckland Multicultural Expo and various other community & business events. Our school actively promotes the younger generation in not just dancing, but also in dance teaching, showcasing the art form and event/stage management. Our school also encourages students to undertake dance collaboration with community dance groups and develop relationships with the wider Kiwi community.
Tamil New Zealand School of Dance is managed by Ambiha Sitsabesan who has been a Bharatanatyam teacher in New Zealand for over 15 years. She has conducted numerous shows in Auckland and Wellington along with her sons Sakayan and Saeyavan who have graduated (arangetram) in Bharatanatyam about six years ago.
